We are concerned that a large proportion of our membership fall within the higher risk categories. Tonight, 16 March, we met to discuss the most appropriate action that we should take considering the risks, government advice and so on.

We have come to the conclusion that is wisest for us to suspend ALL Club meetings with immediate effect. We will, obviously, review the position as things develop but we would expect this suspension to last for at least a month.

This is, however you look at it, a temporary measure. The Club continues and we will update you about this and anything else of interest until we can get back to normal.

In the meantime, we ARE a Club - so, keep modelling. Share with other members what you are doing and the progress you are making on your own projects. We recommend that you join our own Facebook Group if you have not done so already. In that group, and by talking to other Club Members we will continue to be vibrant and supportive of each other in our hobby.

Even if you are not on Facebook, but want to share your achievements let me (webmaster@brmrc.co.uk) know and I will try to ensure they are posted on the Group for you.

For now, happy modelling, we will keep you posted and look forward to seeing you all again in the not too distant future.

All of the pictures from the old gallery are there in addition to a few new ones. BUT we need lots more. So we welcome members of the public viewing the gallery and, if, indeed, you would like to send us any photos of our layouts or exhibitions (to webmaster@brmrc.co.uk) please feel free to do so.

For members, and this is the big change, so long as you are logged in, you can upload your own photographs into existing galleries or create your own new gallery for your photographs. Peter has tested it thoroughly so you shouldn't have any problems. Once you have uploaded your photographs they won't appear immediately but will have to be authorised by myself or another gallery administrator as a safeguard against spamming and the like.

So, please don't hesitate - enjoy the galleries and upload your own pictures of your layouts, club layouts, our exhibitions, club outings and/or prototypes.
An event was held at Rose Hill School in Bognor Regis for the layout to be presented to Network Rail and they are well pleased with it.
They will be only too pleased to tell you about this unusual project.Webmasterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02169560560587863363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1422155547093807523.post-35088015882029149272016-09-27T05:00:00.000-07:002016-09-27T05:00:28.392-07:00More exhibition notices and model railway pressLast weekend saw our member Chris Davis's layout Slindon Vale attending the Bursledon Brickworks "Trains, Trains, Trains" event supported by a number of Club members. The layout ran well and was well received.

Another item which should have been posted previously but which was not owing to internet connection problems will be of interest to those of you who get BRM (British Railway Modelling) magazine - or can find last month's issue. On the cover CD of that issue is included Redford Junction with its new extension and an interview with its owner, long standing member Paul Hopkins.

Additionally, Paul Hopkins was at Amberley Museum Bus gathering
last Sunday with his model of the Bus station and his Chichester Basin road layout. This was to mark the Diamond Jubilee of the
Chichester Bus Station on the 30th September.

In the meantime watch for us at a local event on 22nd October. We will be taking a slightly truncated version of our newly acquired Midhurst layout at the Chichester Lions annual model railway exhibition at Chichester High School for Boys, PO19 8AE an event well worth attending.
This is an interesting venue which consists of a substantial display of railway, vehicular and general industrial and military equipment much of which has been restored and more is under way or awaiting. Set in a number of fields it also includes several exhibition halls and a 2ft Gauge narrow gauge railway. Every year they run an event called "Model Railways Plus" which includes a large number of layouts in addition to all the above and, on the Sunday, a bus rally. You can see other of their events listed at http://www.tinkerspark.com/.

At the request of the organisers we took Aldingbourne Central (a regular attendee much appreciated by the kids in particular), Trenance Downs and (jointly with the South Downs Area Group of the 7mm Narrow Gauge Association) Slindon Vale. All of the layouts proved popular and well received and compared favourably with the other model exhibits. We are already in discussions with them regarding next year which, all being well, should see us putting on an even equally impressive display.

In the meantime, it is now only a couple of weeks to the annual Vintage & Steam event at the Weald & Downland Open Air Museum (http://www.wealddown.co.uk/) on 20/21st August. This is another great location with 40 acres of ground including many permanent displays, many historically fascinating and, on this weekend traction engines, fairground rides, miniature railways and much more. Working with our friends at Chichester Model Engineers (http://www.cdsme.co.uk/), we will be presenting two layouts - Aldingbourne Central and (again jointly with the South Downs Area Group of the 7mm Narrow Gauge Association) Slindon Vale.

Come and visit the event and at the same time see some examples of the kind of thing we can offer. And don't forget to check out our Show Diary (http://brmrc.co.uk/diary.php) to see other locations and exhibitions where we will be exhibiting

At the recent 3mm Society AGM held in Burton upon Trent, Paul was judged
runner-up in the Tony Birch competition for Steam locomotive models
with his LSWR D15 locomotive, and he also won the Broad Green trophy for
non steam locomotive models
with his Southern Electric 2-NOL multiple unit. His colleague Dennis
Bunge from the South Downs and Solent Group of the 3mm Society who
accompanies Paul at the majority of exhibitions he attends, was also
recognised for his model of a Wickham railcar.
Well done Paul and Dennis!Webmasterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02169560560587863363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1422155547093807523.post-92229375145293229472016-04-15T04:05:00.003-07:002016-04-15T04:05:53.201-07:00AGM and a fantastic new acquisition for the ClubWe have important news about the forthcoming AGM and about the Club's acquisition of a superb finescale OO gauge layout which we have acquired and which is based on Midhurst.

AGM

Firstly, although every attempt has been made to ensure that all members of the Club have been advised of the forthcoming AGM we will again remind you. It will be on Tuesday, 24 May 2016 at 7.45 pm in the Signal Box, Oliver’s Meadow, Westergate. An agenda will be issued prior to the meeting and should any member which to have something included in the Agenda please ensure both that you formally propose it to our Secretary, Graham Hignell by no later than 4 weeks prior (by 24 April) and that it is also seconded by another Club member.

Midhurst Layout

Now, we have another very important piece of news. Like most, if not all model railway clubs, we like to build and display our own layouts - and, indeed, there are already plans afoot in this regard. But, once in a while, an opportunity arises which is, simply too good to refuse. In this case, we were offered a truly superb model railway layout in OO finescale which is based on, for us geographically appropriate, Midhurst.

This layout has spent most of its life in the South west or the North West and, as a result has very seldom appeared in the South-Eastern corner of the country. We plan to rectify this before too long although firstly we have to learn how to operate it! But there is no doubt that our members will rise to this challenge with great enthusiasm. We have to express our gratitude to our colleagues at the Leyland Model Railway Club and particularly Tony Bates for this wonderful opportunity and, indeed, even delivering it to us when it made one of its rare south-eastern appearances.

For those who have not already seen the layout then please follow this link to the Leyland Model Railway Club's website where you will find not only a description but also a couple of video clips and THEN you will see why we are so enthusiastic.

Naturally, this being the closest of the large National Exhibitions, quite a few Club members visited over the two days with, as usual, a contingent of our junior members (and quite a few not so junior ones!) on the Saturday.

In the photo below you can see Paul proudly (and it has to be said, happily!) showing his layout with some of our junior members who were enjoying it, and, indeed, the Show as a whole.
There is a saying that many hands make light work and this is very true. The show is our chance to not only show off our own club exhibits, but to build on an excellent reputation in the South of putting on an excellent weekend exhibition. It is also our best opportunity to raise much needed funds for the club, our new premises and to ensure we continue to grow by attracting new members.

As I said, 2016 will be a very exciting year for the club. Once the excitement of our show is over we then start to look forward towards the official signing of our 25 year lease (January) and formal opening of the Signal Box (June).

As your elected Chairman I have tried to lead from the front and have devoted much of my time since the AGM to developing further facilities that will allow us as a club to expand and develop our love of modelling. You will recall that I said it was time to play as a club particularly as the prior years have been spent on restoring the Signal Box and making the Goods Shed truly fit for purpose. Well our new 'test track'/'layout' is making very good progress and I am thankful to my crew (You know who you are guys) for helping me to drive this project forward.

We also have a very good G Gauge track that will/has provided fun this last Summer and further additions in the coming year will ensure we have most gauges catered for now.

We have a fab club that I hope ticks all your boxes as members, but if it doesn't you know I am a very good listener and I would welcome any constructive comments and ideas that will help the club move forward. Talking of moving forward, I hope you are all enjoying our new club room now...how lovely is it drinking tea and enjoying being in the Signal Box? Fantastic and well done to Mike and all his volunteers.

Our junior members have also been a real credit to our club this year and the dioramas' they have produced will I'm sure receive excellent feedback at our show. They have really risen to the Chairman's challenge and all have made a real contribution to our club - well done lads.

Finally I would like to thank all the officers of the club for their hard work and support given this last year. We need to remember that without their support and voluntary time given that we could not continue as a club. Thank you; Dave; John, Chris, Philip, Graham; James and Stephen. A big thank you also to Jane who has been a fantastic support to the club and who has produced fantastic minutes.

There are more thank you messages to come, but I don't want to spoil the awards part of our AGM so will keep these under cover till then.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Adrian

CHAIRMAN

Amongst the attendees are Paul Hopkins and John Wakeman with Redford Junction, a TT masterpiece. Once they have been to Warley Paul will have attended 19 exhibitions this year, supporting BRMRC and the 3mm Society, and that has involved 31 days of exhibitions, travelling over 3,800 miles. Additionally, Redford Junction was the first 3mm layout ever to be exhibited at the Great Electric Train show at Gaydon, and he has managed to have an article included in the December 2015 edition of the Railway Modeller, which is the third consecutive year with an article in the Model Railway press. Excellent stuff Paul!

In the meantime, the national group supporting narrow gauge modelling in or about 7mm scale, the 7mm Narrow Gauge Association has, in the latest issue of Narrow Lines, its bi-monthly high quality magazine, an article by our very own Doug Meany on his layout - the Allbroke Estate Railway. Once again BRMRC is mentioned in the article and, of course, the layout has been to a number of exhibitions.

It is pleasing that our members are out flying the Club's flag both in person and in print.

Portsea by Paul Hopkins and John Wakeman in Railway Modeller

For the third year in succession, a layout by BRMRC members has appeared in the Railway Modeller. On this occasion, it is Paul Hopkins' and John Wakeman's beautiful Portsea layout. This is an excellent article, with superb photography and well reflects the good standard of modelling on this layout. We are fortunate to have some very competent modellers within the Club and this is certainly true of Paul and John - well done to you both. So, if you don't get Railway Modeller, rush to your nearest stockist and get one now - the article even includes a plug for our exhibition on 9 & 10 January 2016.

Members Questionnaire

The Club has, for some considerable time, being putting most of its
effort into its new buildings. As you are all aware, we are rapidly
approaching completion which means, of course, that we can start
considering what we want to do about actual model railway layouts! Now, this is where we need the members' input. So simply use your member's log in, go to the member's home page from the menu on the left and then follow the link to the questionnaire we are asking you to complete. It's not complicated - you simply have a space to tell us what you think.Webmasterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02169560560587863363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1422155547093807523.post-52422130986308753612015-10-25T03:59:00.002-07:002015-10-25T03:59:38.416-07:00Chichester Lions ExhibitionSaturday , October 25th was the date of the Chichester Lions model railway show. Always an entertaining little show with a strong leaning towards entertaining the children there were, nevertheless some very nice exhibits.

Naturally, BRMRC was well represented. Following the children's entertainment theme Aldingbourne Central was there as usual and, also as usual, proved very popular with younger visitors. We also had two Club member's layouts there. Outstanding, of course, was Paul Hopkins' and John Wakeman's Portsea appearing in the December 2015 Railway Modeller, together with my own Slindon Vale railway which I would like to believe is also something a bit special.

Quite apart from these and a one or two other lovely "proper" model railways, backing on to myself and Paul was a running display of model trams in, I believe, the traditional sale of 3/4" to the foot. Old trams tend to be a wonderful example of Victorian engineering and art and I always find it wonderful to see these beauties recreated in such amazing detail.

An enjoyable show with, I believe, a good footfall in a good cause and plenty of our members there either assisting with our exhibits (for which I thank them) or simply as visitors.

Webmasterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02169560560587863363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1422155547093807523.post-5302350801353095372015-10-14T13:23:00.000-07:002015-10-21T11:09:17.668-07:00Autumn is busy! The Junior section of the club have entered a challenge to build a diorama of a theme of their choice, several were in progress at yesterday’s club meeting and there are some interesting features in them all. They have to be completed in December, and will be considered as part of the Junior achiever award at the Club’s AGM and award ceremony in May 2016. We hope to have an area of the club’s annual exhibition in January will be set aside to display these models.

And talking of which, make sure you have the date for our Annual Exhibition (9-10 January 2016) in your diary. Continuing our theme of constant improvement you really mustn't miss it! We are close to finalising our list of traders, layouts and others and will soon post a list on the website.

Paul Hopkins' and John Wakeman’s new 3mm layout Portsea, is previewed in the current edition of the Railway Modeller, and the full layout article will be appearing in the December edition of the Railway Modeller. Look out for it in the newsagents in early November.

Paul’s layout Redford Junction featured in the Hornby magazine no 77 (November 2013), was exhibited at the Great Electric Train Show at Gaydon over the weekend of October 10th & 11th. Redford is modelled to a scale of 3mm : ft, and this is the first time a layout of this scale has been exhibited at this exhibition. Redford Junction is also booked to appear at the Warley NEC exhibition in November.Webmasterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02169560560587863363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1422155547093807523.post-17644297958510567092015-05-17T05:15:00.002-07:002015-05-17T05:16:16.539-07:00A busy weekend for BRMRCSaturday May 16 was a very busy day for the club with two layouts attending the Model Railway show at Angmering. This was arranged by the West Sussex N gauge Society supporting Jamie's Wish Trust. In attendance was our ever popular “00” scale “Aldingbourne Central” layout which allows children to have go running trains. This show was attended by two club officers, the Chairman and Treasurer and several other members who went along to help with operating and transport of layouts. The Show appears to have been successful and our contribution an important part of it.

Meanwhile, at the Felpham Leisure Center, another show took place arranged by the 7mm Narrow Gauge Association local group known as SWING (Small and Wonderful Industrial & Narrow Gauge) supporting Dizzy (a diabetes charity). Several of the group are also members of BRMRC. These include Club officers, the Vice-Chairman (also 7 mm. member) and Secretary and two Committee members together with a few other Club members with interest in a different aspect of the hobby to support and help with transport and set up etc. Whilst not the first of its kind it was the first time at this venue and judging by the queue to get in and the great strain placed on the few running the “Buffet”, was a great success.

Were this not to be enough, in the afternoon, at the home of BRMRC at the Aldingbourne Sports Club two BRMRC members (members of the American section), one of whom built almost single handed (and has recently completed - if a model railway layout is ever completed!), the “G” scale layout between the Goods Shed and the restored Barnham Signal Box, hosted a meet of the “G” scale Society where their members could bring and operate their own trains on this newly constructed layout.
This again proved a very successful few hours with requests for further visits.

All this goes to prove that with friendship, reciprocity and harmony a great deal can be achieved within railway modeling and that BRMRC really is a “Club for all gauges & scales” - and like the NMRA, "sharing Know-how".

The day got off to a slow start as Barnham showed it's age, literally - not just because it was set to run stock from circa 1948 to the late 1950's - but due to the usual exhibitor nightmare of 'on the day' wiring issues. Attended to by our Exhibition Manager (John Wakeman) and his able assistant (John McPeake), both who probably can recall early wiring of the period (ha ha), the layout began to perform to much visitor satisfaction and admiration, particularly the rolling stock, which again we were thankful to Paul Hopkins for the loan of.

There was a strong membership attendance from BRMRC, including our junior section and the Chairman, on a 'flying' spot check, was delighted to see all in correct club attire.

Having thoroughly enjoyed the show and the hospitality afforded to us by Victory MRC, to whom we extend our sincere thanks, the day ended on a high note as Barnham Junction was awarded the 'Best in Show' award, as voted for by the paying public. Lots of pictures of a fantastic engraved award presented to the BRMRC team will no doubt follow on the website in due course.
It can be guaranteed every year that BRMRC members attend and this year, like last year this included a number of our Junior Members who went up as a party with our Children's Club Officer. They certainly enjoyed both the trip and the show.

They can be seen here gathered around the status of Sir John Betjeman at St. Pancras. He, of course was not only famous as a poet but was largely responsible for saving the Station and the Chambers from demolition in the 1960's.

At the show itself, amongst the many high quality layouts was Paul Hopkin's Modbury Torr, a 3mm scale (TT Gauge) masterpiece. Paul, of course, is one of our members and you can see more about some ofhis layouts in our "Member's Layouts" section. It was certainly well appreciated by the youngsters who can be seen here gathered in front of it. Much to engaged to bother posing for the camera this time!
Congratulations & well done to all who attended today and contributed/participated in the official opening of the Goods Shed (our new workshop and storeage facility) and our celebration of 20+ years on site at Olivers Meadow, Aldingbourne.

My thanks as Chairman go to Terry Lawrence (Cabinet Member of Arun District Council) and Dennis Leonard (ACSC Trustee) who carried out the opening ceremony. Both supporters of BRMRC and therefore very apt appointments. Indeed Dennis opened our old club building in 1994.

Thanks also to our following guests who helped celebarate the opening and in some part have played a part in our taking occupation of the Goods Shed;

Laurence Ward (Chairman of Aldingbourne Parish Council)
Tony Chown (ACSC Trustee & Aldingbourne Parish Councillor)
Rachel Cornell (Clerk to Aldingbourne Parish Council)
Ben Heather (A B Heather & Son - Carried out the cladding work on the building plus built/installed the stairs)

A massive thank you to Heidi & Jane who undertook the catering tasks and put on an excellent spread for us all to enjoy - as usual ,though we must not take them for granted. Well done ladies.

I must also make a special mention /a big thank you to Paul, who brought a lot of memorabilia and his show stopping layout to our celebration/opening as well as being the driving force behind a lot of what was put on show today. Thanks also to Charlie who braved the early rain to set up a complete G Gauge circuit on the Signal Box bank (a fantastic addition to our club) and very much enjoyed by the juniors in the mid-morning sun that appeared as the last piece of track was layed - typical. Thanks also to Neil who helped out here.

Apologies if I have missed anybody out but my final thank you goes to our excellent committee & John McPeake who all mucked in and made sure we celebrated in style and made your Chairman proud to be Chairman of our club.

Well done all and here's to another 20+ years in our new building.
Appropriately, this is almost on the anniversary of the opening of the old, now time expired, Clubhouse.

We will be opening at about 1000 and by way of celebrations, in The Goods Shed and the Signal Box we will have a couple of working layouts, outdoor model railway (weather permitting), numerous modelling exhibits and memorabilia relating to the Club's long history.

We expect to see all of our Club members there together with family and friends and any other supporters of the Club. Light refreshments will be available.

For those who don't know, the new Clubhouse is only 100 yards from the old - and clearly visible from there, next to the Signal Box.Webmasterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02169560560587863363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1422155547093807523.post-31540577846888945492014-04-08T09:40:00.000-07:002014-04-11T03:59:09.875-07:00BRMRC - AGM - 2014Hi everyone
